On the 8th of February 2011, grade 10 students of Cita Hati Christian School went on a field trip to Jakarta and Bandung. We gathered at the airport at 5 in the morning and departed at 6.30 in the morning. It was so early in the morning, and I was very sleepy at the time. Thank God that there were already some of my friends that I can talk to. We flew by Garuda Indonesia airlines and by 1 hour we landed in Soekarno-Hatta airport already! =)
We waited for around 1 hour while having breakfast at A&W. The second group arrived around 1 hour after we did. Then there were a short briefing about the tour, the bus distribution, and the booklet distribution. Shortly afterwards, we departed to our first destination, which was the Garuda Maintenance Facilities. The Garuda Maintenance Facilities (GMF) is a HUGE building, and it is where airplanes get maintained and serviced. Not only for Garuda Indonesia airplanes but also for other nationals airlines and even international airlines. I was impressed because it was a precious and rare experience and not many people can go inside and observe the way things work there. We had to do a report there and after that, we got the opportunity to come in a huge aircraft and I got to the cockpit, which was very fun. The cockpit was very narrow and it has a lot of buttons and very complicated. After that we went to Aerofood Catering Service. It is a company that provides food for the airplanes. Not only food, but also for the blankets, pillow, and etc. We got the chance to go inside the food processing plant where they keep all the ingredients and store them in a freezer, also how they process them. We got to eat our lunch there and it was pretty good. Next stop, GITC or Garuda Indonesia Training Center. It is where all the stewards and stewardesses are trained. Everything from make up, attitude, etc are being taught there. We got the chance to go into the simulator and we had fun there. After that we went directly to Bandung. It was a 3 hours road trip, and when we arrived there it was already night, so we went straight to dinner, at Kampung Daun, which was a very nice restaurant. Very traditional and the food was pretty delicious also. After dinner, we checked in to the Amaris hotel. It didn’t take long for me to go to sleep because it was a very exhausting day and we had to get up early in the morning the next day.
